With over 80 years of commitment to innovative design, using time honoured materials and techniques, Oroton has a long and respected history.

Founded in Sydney in 1938 by Boyd Lane, Oroton started as an importer of luxury European textiles. From its very beginnings, Oroton believed in quality, working to source the best materials around the world. Oroton soon transitioned into design, revolutionising Australian fashion by replacing the traditional materials used for evening bags with woven metallic mesh - a solely utilitarian material at the time. The collections of shimmering gold and silver evening bags were widely sought after. Oroton became symbolic of Australian fashion: relaxed, modern, practical and beautiful.

Sustainability Efforts

In Oroton’s 80-year history, they have worked with the same group of suppliers for 30 years. Oroton have nurtured these long-term relationships to ensure they know where they get their product from – and accept only the best.

Oroton are in the process of reducing the amount of packing paper that is used during transit and now use recycled packing paper and cartons. In-store, the swing tags and retail carry bags are made from 100% recycled materials, and chemical free, water soluble dyes. Oroton carry bags are recyclable Poly bags.

All Oroton products are made by reputable manufacturing partners and they require suppliers to meet the requirements outlined in Oroton’s Ethical Sourcing Code. This includes complying with international labour and environmental laws, providing a safe and hygienic work environment and fair but not excessive hours for workers.

Oroton raised over $112,000 for state-based fire services across the country. The funds were donated to NSW Rural Fire Service, Victoria’s Country Fire Authority (CFA), Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES), South Australian Country Fire Service (CFS) and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) Western Australia. We also joined over 200 fashion, lifestyle, beauty and home brands, donating Oroton small leather goods such as bags, beauty cases, wallets, mirrors and coin purses to the KFE Market for Bushfire Relief.
