About
Inspiring the world to reduce and reuse, KeepCup is an Australian company that was founded in 2007 by a brother and sister duo after they grew concerned about the volume of single-use coffee cups that they were using in their own chain of Melbourne cafes. They set out to develop a product solution that worked both behind the espresso machine and for customers; not compromising speed of service or coffee quality, while ensuring a better experience for coffee on the go. For this reason, KeepCup is often described as the world's first barista-standard reusable coffee cup. Their products are now used in over 75 countries around the world.
They took a huge gamble that usability, low-impact manufacturing and design aesthetics could drive behaviour change and make a difference to how people think about convenience culture and it’s paid off!
Over the course of one year, one individual using a KeepCup instead of disposable cups reduces water use by up to 90%, greenhouse gas emissions by 92%, and landfill by 99%. Your carbon footprint is 4 times smaller when using a KeepCup, compared to disposable cups.
Sustainability Efforts
They have helped LinkedIn Dublin go single-use free, supported the Australian Open to drive reuse across their broadcasting and media centres, worked with the Bank of England to shift reuse rates from 10 to 80 percent amongst their 4,000 staff, diverted over 118,000 single-use cups from landfill with the University of Leeds and worked with Strawberry Fields to establish a reuse program for their 9,000 festival goers.
Products are designed with modularity in mind. KeepCups have as few parts as possible, and the use of common parts across multiple products means lost or damaged components can easily be replaced – meaning customers can replace a part, not the product – reducing our products’ overall impact.
Reducing unnecessary waste is why we’re in business. Since the very beginning, they have partnered with local manufacturers and designers to ensure that packaging protects the product, is modular, uses minimal material, can be reused and is recyclable.
In 2014 KeepCup became one of Australia’s founding B Corps.
B Corps are for-profit businesses committed to a new economy that is purpose driven, with businesses focused on making a positive difference to stakeholders, current and future generations and the natural world.
